Leaving the Rankins and Celtic music to find his own voice, Jimmy Rankin launched his solo career with a stunning debut album, and followed that up with 5 more. A dynamic live performer with a long list of hits, Jimmy moves effortlessly between Roots, Country and Pop, taking his audience on a musical journey from Cape Breton to Nashville - where he lived, and where the air is infused with country music - and back again. He plays all over the world but says it’s always nice to play on home turf (or home water, as Jimmy’s small acoustic group will be on our floating stage!).
“Going back to the early days of making recordings with my siblings, we always included a country song and we always played some country music growing up,” he recalls. Jimmy’s latest, Back Road Paradise is a straight country release. It includes lead single “Cool Car,” “Flames” (featuring Grammy Award-winning Alison Krauss), and “Never Gonna Leave” (featuring Jim Cuddy). Previous collaborations include Keith Urban and Serena Ryder on Forget About the World.
Between The Rankin Family and his solo career Jimmy has amassed 5 Junos, 28 ECMAs, 9 SOCAN Top Radio Play Awards, 7 CCMAs, and 2 Canadian Radio Music Awards. He also napped top spot in CBC’s “Top Ten East Coast Song of All Time” for his hit single Fare Thee Well Love. Jimmy Rankin is the first country artist we’ve presented, but we wanted to get it right. It seems we have.
