“Tom Allen is a true communicator, the Garrison Keillor of music.” (Peter Oundjian)
CBC Radio 2 host Tom Allen is also a writer, storyteller and songwriter. He’s published four books, been concert host for The Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and a Resident Artist with Soulpepper Theatre (hosting spectacular concerts). In recent years he’s been lucky enough to gather a versatile cast of musical friends who have helped him create a series of cabaret storytelling Chamber Musical shows: Bohemians in Brooklyn, The Judgment of Paris, From Weimar to Vaudeville, The Last Curlew, and The Missing Pages. These have been presented at the Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival, Luminato, Westben and Music Niagara.
Tom Allen’s brand new show Exosphere features Tom with harpist Lori Gemmell, sound designer/guitarist John Gzowski, dancer Julia Aplin, and the wonderful soprano Patricia O'Callaghan (who gave us a marvellous cabaret show in 2011). Exosphere is set in a distant century, above a parched world, where life is reduced to its molecular truth and where bonding together is the only means of survival. Music is by J.S. Bach, Hugh Le Caine, G.F. Handel and Caroline Lizotte, plus original music by the cast.
The Forest Festival would like to do more of this type of innovative programming. We are proud to present Exosphere as the closing event of our season.
